Kansas City, Mo. – Lynn University men's soccer star Niklas Tasky cemented his legacy as one of the top defenders in program history following his selection as a United Soccer Coaches Association Third Team All-American. Tasky becomes just the eighth player in school history to be honored as a three-year All-American.
The Hannover, Germany, product has been a constant in the defense since joining the Blue and White in 2016. Prior to him joining the squad, Lynn had not recorded more than six shutouts in a season from 2013-15. In his first season on the back line, Lynn recorded eight clean sheets en route to 30 over his three years, the most during a three-year stretch since 2011-13.
Additionally, the team's 14 shutouts in 2017 were the most for a Fighting Knights squad under head coach John Rootes, third-most in school history and the most since 1993 (16). The 10 goals allowed were also third-fewest for the program.
Tasky's honors are numerous: 2018 & 2016 United Soccer Coaches All-America, 2017 D2CAA All-America, 2016-18 United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA First Team All-South Region, 2016-18 First Team All-Sunshine State Conference. Those 12 accolades trail only Jason Sangha (15) and Lee Porter (14) in program history.
Always known as a stellar defender, Tasky added some offensive prowess to his game in 2018, tallying a career-high two goals, two assists and six points.
The Fighting Knights reached the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year, falling in the NCAA Division II South Region finals to Barry. Tasky helped Lynn finish as the NCAA Division II National Runners-Up in 2017 and a second round appearance in 2016.
Lynn ended the season 11-4-3 overall and the NCAA Division II South Region runner-up. The Blue and White are slated to return 20 letterwinners, including six starters.
